You've been coming to Kieser for a while now and know your way around the machines. You show up, work through your program and head home having put in the work.
But questions stay with you. Are you working hard enough? Are your weights at the right level? Sometimes you finish a set wondering if you could have done more. And there are weeks when the second session may not happen.
If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. And it's exactly what our Assisted Training 1 Membership is designed for. Read on for a look at the key benefits of assisted training with an exercise scientist and how they work in practice.
Two sessions, 30 minutes each – and you're done
An Assisted Training 1 (AT1) Membership means one 30-minute session each week with a Kieser exercise scientist, alongside your regular independent session.
Together, that's 2 strength training sessions a week which meets the Australian physical activity guidelines for strength training.
The session itself is straightforward. Your exercise scientist sets up each machine, ensures your form is right and guides you through every set. You don't have to think about your weights, your setup or whether you're doing it right. You just focus on moving.
For members who find it hard to stay consistent, having that one supervised session each week provides a natural anchor. It can help to keep the habit in place, even in busy weeks.
The intensity gap
When you train alone, you may not be working as hard as you could be. This is human nature.
Pushing yourself to the point where you genuinely can't do another rep (what exercise scientists call momentary muscular failure) is uncomfortable. It can feel daunting, especially if you've had an injury in the past. Many of us stop just before we get there.
The problem is that this final push is where much of the benefit happens.
Strength training research shows that supervised sessions can deliver stronger results than training alone.
The reason comes down to this gap between where we stop and where we could go.
Reaching that high-effort point also helps maintain type 2 muscle fibres. Your body relies on these for balance, quick reactions and absorbing impact. High-intensity strength training helps keep them working well for longer. This supports your independence, confidence and ability to do the things you want to do.
With an exercise scientist beside you, you get there safely. They watch your form, adjust your technique, check in throughout the set, and give you the cues and encouragement to keep going just a little longer.
The session still ends in 30 minutes. But what happens in those 30 minutes is different.
The ceiling you've hit probably isn't your ceiling
Most members hit a plateau at some point, where progress stalls and the weights on a machine haven't moved in months.
Often, this isn't a physical plateau – it's an intensity plateau. Without someone encouraging you to move past your comfort zone on that machine, your muscles don't quite get the signal they need to grow stronger.
An exercise scientist can identify exactly where this is happening and why. They'll adjust your program and use techniques to increase intensity while maintaining safety throughout the set. They’ll coach you through the kind of effort that creates change.
As a qualified exercise scientist, they can also adjust your program right there in the moment with you. They’ll refine your training as you go, so there's no need to wait for your next program review.
Within a few supervised sessions, members often find that start to progress on machines they've been stuck on for months. That's not a coincidence – it's what targeted, high-effort training may achieve.
Assisted training is also a chance to refine your technique. With an exercise scientist working alongside you, every set gets focused, one-on-one attention: how your form looks, where you can adjust and what you could push a little further. That kind of coaching builds real confidence which carries into every session you do on your own.
Experience the benefits of assisted training on your terms
The benefits of assisted training don't have to come with a long-term commitment.
Many Kieser members use assisted training strategically – for a block of 6 weeks before a ski trip, ahead of a busy travel period, or whenever they want to maximise their results in a short window. You can also purchase sessions in packs rather than as a continuous membership, and space them out as it suits you.
Think of it like an investment in your training. A period of supervised sessions can reset your intensity, sharpen your technique, and show you what your program is capable of delivering. Then you carry that forward, independently, with a clearer sense of what safe, high-effort training feels like for you.
For members who've been training for a while, even a short block of assisted sessions can accelerate what might otherwise take much longer to achieve on your own.
New to Kieser? Book an initial consultation to get started. Already a member? Speak with your clinic team about trying assisted training.
Getting older is inevitable. Losing strength doesn't have to be.
