Machine of the Month - C2 Torso Arm Front

Keep Your Back and Arms Strong with the C2

The C2, or torso arm front, isolates and strengthens the latissimus dorsi and lower trapezius muscles of the upper back and the biceps muscles of the arms.

The C2 is a multi-joint exercise that incorporates extension at the shoulder and flexion at the elbow. While similar to the C3 exercise, the variation to the handholds makes the C2 exercise more tolerable to clients with shoulder problems. This makes the C2 an ideal progression to the C3 exercise.

Training on the C2 can help to improve posture and reduce shoulder pain.

Important Technique Points

  • Ensure that your hips are all the way to the back of the seat

  • Keep your upper body straight and leaning slightly forward from the hips

  • Remember to keep your wrists straight

  • Be sure that your shoulders stay down while your arms are extended

  • Keep your head in a neutral position

  • Keep a neutral lumbar spine to avoid overarching your lower back.

If you would like to add the C2 to your training program, be sure to talk to an instructor.
