Machine of the Month - F1/F1.1 Rotary Torso

Keep Your Trunk Strong with the F1/F1.1

The F1/F1.1, or rotary torso, isolates and strengthens the oblique muscles on the side of the abdomen.

The F1 is an extremely effective machine for core stability and strength. The F1 strengthens the oblique muscles of the abdomen to help rotate the torso and helps contribute to spinal stability.

The oblique muscles are activated in activities that involve twisting the torso, or bending from side to side. The obliques are one of the most important muscles that are used to produce a powerful golf swing.

Important Technique Points

  • Ensure that your hips don’t move throughout the exercise

  • During the exercise, keep your back firmly in contact with the backrest

  • Remember to rotate your head along with your upper body

  • Be sure that you are not supporting the movement with your hands, arms and shoulders

If you would like to add the F1 or F1.1 to your training program, be sure to talk to an Exercise Scientist.
