Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis Program

The Kieser Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis Programs are 14-week programs developed by Kieser to:

  • Prevent or delay joint replacement surgery.

  • Reduce pain and other symptoms you may be experiencing.

  • Improve your ability to undertake everyday activities.

  • Provide a long-term plan to help self-manage your osteoarthritis.

 

The Kieser Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis Programs have been developed to help you improve your osteoarthritic hip or knee in a safe and supervised manner. The 14-week programs include:

  • An initial assessment and 6 one-on-one treatment and supervised exercise sessions with a physiotherapist.

  • 1:1 exercise sessions with an Exercise Physiologist or Exercise Scientist.

  • A physiotherapist-designed, independent strengthening program on Kieser equipment, supervised by Exercise Scientists.

  • Education on how to manage and live with Osteoarthritis.

  • Use of the Kieser Konnect app.

  • Objective assessments to help measure your improvement.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for GMHBA to fund your participation in the Kieser Hip & Knee Program you must have an appropriate GMHBA hospital policy that includes Bone, Joint & Muscle and Joint Replacements and served the 2 and 12 month pre-existing condition waiting period. You must not have participated in another GMHBA funded Kieser program in the last 12 months and meet the accessibility criteria for the program as determined by Kieser. 

Program Inclusion Criteria:

  • You must have a diagnosis of hip or knee Osteoarthritis, confirmed by diagnostic imaging.

  • Your GP must believe you may need hip or knee joint replacement surgery in the next three years, and that by completing Kieser’s program, you are likely to be able to significantly delay surgery, or even prevent it altogether.

  • You must have a pain level of 4/10 or higher, on average over the past month.

Spinal Program

The Kieser Spinal Program is an 18-week program developed by Kieser to:

  • Prevent or delay spinal surgery.

  • Reduce pain and other symptoms you may be experiencing.

  • Improve your ability to undertake everyday activities.

  • Provide a long-term plan to help self-manage your lower back condition.

 

The Kieser Spinal Program has been developed to help you improve your lower back condition in a safe and supervised manner. The 18-week program includes:

  • An initial assessment, and 13 one-on-one treatment and supervised exercise sessions with a physiotherapist.

  • 12 sessions on the Kieser lumbar extension strengthening machine.

  • Progression to 1:1 exercise sessions with an exercise physiologist or exercise scientist.

  • A physiotherapist-designed, independent strengthening program on Kieser equipment, supervised by exercise scientists.

  • Use of the Kieser Konnect app.

  • Education program on how to manage and live with your lower back condition.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for GMHBA to fund your participation in the Spinal Program you must hold you must have an appropriate GMHBA hospital policy that includes Back, Neck and Spine, and Pain Management with Device, and served the 2 and 12 month pre-existing condition waiting period. You must not have participated in another GMHBA funded Kieser program in the last 12 months and meet the accessibility criteria for the program as determined by Kieser.

Program Inclusion Criteria:

  • You must have a condition of the lumbar spine which has been confirmed by diagnostic imaging.

  • Your GP must believe you may need surgery for your lumbar spine condition in the next three years, and that by completing Kieser’s program, you are likely to be able to significantly delay, or even prevent surgery altogether.

  • You must have a pain level of 4/10 or higher, on average over the past month.

Receive a referral:

To receive a referral, book an appointment with your GP and take the Kieser Program referral form and information to your GP.

Your GP will review your condition against the program criteria and provide a referral if appropriate.

Your program in the app can also be personalised with a program to suit your specific needs if you have a telehealth consultation with a Kieser physiotherapist.
